Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud.  As a Principal Strategic Supplier Quality Engineer within the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization, you will play a critical role in delivering the core datacenter infrastructure that powers Microsoft’s global cloud business. Microsoft’s portfolio includes complex, multi-disciplinary, large-scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are seeking a passionate, high-energy leader who can drive quality, influence strategic supplier partnerships, and help deliver the resilient infrastructure behind some of the world’s largest online services 



Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Drives electrical equipment supplier quality improvement initiatives, supports supplier selection for the region and conducts supplier audits.  Leads part qualification processes through implementation of product quality plans, equipment inspections, factory witness testing, and manufacturing process qualifications. Assesses equipment quality and manufacturing processes to ensure suppliers meet Microsoft capabilities and requirements, address non-conformances, mitigate escaping defects that may impact sites, and develop critical supplier engagement strategies to proactively address gaps. Performs root cause analysis of equipment failures. Provides technical support and guidance for improving equipment reliability.  Partners with NPI, supply chain, engineering, construction, and vendors to identify equipment quality performance gaps, testing protocols, and implement corrective actions at suppliers. 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience

Background Check Requirements: 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in leading teams through transformational change
  • 8+ years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing, process improvement or related experience in electrical system equipment such as LV/MV, PDUs, Transformers, UPS, etc. 
  • Technical knowledge, ideally with experience in multiple sectors and industries  
  • Experience with data center operations, EPC, or mission critical equipment 
  • Experience with manufacturing environments, technical specifications 
  • Lean 6 Sigma Greenbelt / Gemba experience. 
  • ASQ Certification

 

 

 



Electrical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
