The Manager, Technical Operations will lead the strategy, engineering, and execution of the infrastructure and transmission pipelines that power Apple’s worldwide events, at any scale, in any format, for every audience.

Description

You will oversee the development and optimization of end-to-end live streaming, transmission, accessibility & localization workflows. Partnering closely with Technical Production and creative teams, you will constantly rethink, redesign, and fortify our existing systems while spearheading an innovation roadmap that leverages emerging technologies - including AI-driven broadcast tools.

This role requires deep engineering expertise in broadcast infrastructure, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to operate flawlessly in high-pressure, executive-facing scenarios. You will build, mentor, and manage a high-performing technical team, driving rigorous documentation, system design, and vendor collaboration to ensure no-fail delivery.

Responsibilities

Oversee the engineering and infrastructure for the technology that runs major events, the Steve Jobs Theater, and various internal broadcast facilities.

Direct the technical workflows for accessibility and localization across all events and keynotes, ensuring global reach and inclusivity.

Define and manage the innovation technology roadmap, identifying, researching, and testing next-generation technologies and AI-assisted tools.

Collaborate with other technical and production teams to continuously evaluate, rethink, redesign, and strengthen overarching system architecture to ensure consistent tooling and workflows across teams and events

Design and implement advanced broadcast infrastructure technologies, including routing, switching, and cloud video services.

Develop existing live encoding pipelines, digital storage solutions, and Media Asset Management (MAM) systems to enable scaling, compressed timelines and changing formats

Oversee the technical requirements for remote film locations and shoots, ensuring seamless connectivity, power, and infrastructure support.

Create, organize, and centralize comprehensive technical drawings, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), workflows, and asset documentation.

Manage high-level vendor relationships, driving system design, integration, and continuous improvement.

Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of technical operators and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Ensure strict adherence to best practices for video specifications, including HDR formats, color spaces, and signal flow.

Minimum Qualifications

10+ years of experience in broadcast engineering, technical operations, or live event transmission for large-scale, high-visibility productions.

Understanding of live streaming architecture, transmission, remote production pipelines, and satellite uplink/downlink operations.

Strong working knowledge of IP-based broadcast infrastructure, including SMPTE ST 2110, SDI routing, and advanced video processing.

Solid understanding of live event display technologies, including LED walls, processors, and advanced screen switching.

Knowledge of high-end video specifications, codecs, formats, and HDR workflows.

Proven experience managing live encoding pipelines, digital storage,MAM systems and production networking environments

Demonstrated ability to read, draft, and execute complex technical drawings, workflows, and signal flow diagrams.

Experience assessing and supporting the technical, power, and data requirements for film locations and remote shoots.

Proven track record of managing people, leading cross-functional projects, and driving technical initiatives from concept to completion.

Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to handle ambiguity gracefully and operate under a prioritization framework balancing competing priorities and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience exploring and implementing AI-driven tools or automation within broadcast and live event workflows.

Experience managing accessibility (closed captioning, audio description, sign language) and localization workflows for global audiences.

Experience managing and resolving shared-infrastructure boundaries across stakeholder groups.

Experience working in highly confidential environments with strict security and quality standards.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to influence and align stakeholders across disciplines.

Strong understanding of emerging production technologies and IT/Network engineering principles.

Willingness and ability to travel globally as required.
