About the Role:
Build your technical expertise while helping maintain the equipment that supports reliable pharmaceutical manufacturing at Takeda. As a Maintenance Technician II at our Round Lake, Illinois site, you’ll provide hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting support for the Galaxy filling process and equipment throughout the Mix, Fill, and Finishing complexes.
You’ll work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams to keep production lines operating safely and efficiently. From preventive maintenance and equipment repairs to troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues, your work will help minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and support the delivery of quality products to patients.
This role is suited to a maintenance professional who can work independently, identify potential equipment issues before they affect production, and contribute to a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical knowledge-sharing.
Shift Details: 12-hour shift from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM on a 2-2-3 rotating schedule
How You Will Contribute:
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment supporting the Galaxy filling process and the Mix, Fill, and Finishing manufacturing complexes.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to resolve equipment failures and minimize production downtime.
- Monitor assigned manufacturing lines during production, communicate with Manufacturing personnel, and proactively identify issues that could affect equipment performance, product quality, or production schedules.
- Review preventive maintenance requirements, verify parts availability, and complete scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) activities on time.
- Build, rebuild, and repair machine assemblies and support equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Initiate work orders and document equipment breakdowns, alarms, repairs, and recurring issues using JD Edwards (JDE) computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or other designated tracking methods.
- Review equipment trends and downtime information to identify recurring problems and support corrective actions that improve reliability.
- Troubleshoot robots operating in normal production modes and investigate issues affecting machine output and quality.
- Communicate equipment issues, work status, and potential production impacts to supervisors, Manufacturing, and management in accordance with site Stop and Fix guidelines.
- Assign or coordinate maintenance work related to the Galaxy process, as appropriate, and ensure associated documentation is complete and accurate.
- Share technical knowledge and help train less experienced technicians on equipment, preventive maintenance, safety, and 6S practices.
- Follow applicable corporate specifications, site procedures, GMP requirements, and safety standards; report unsafe conditions and practices and complete required training on time.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and lead technicians to resolve technical issues, escalate concerns when necessary, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Bring to Takeda:
- A high school diploma or GED plus 2+ years of related experience, or an associate degree or higher plus 1+ year of related work experience, is required.
- 3 or more years of manufacturing systems experience is preferred.
- Technical certifications in maintenance, instrumentation, electrical systems, or a related discipline are a plus.
- Experience working in an FDA-regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Practical experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is required.
- The ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings is required.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions, are required.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) or a willingness to develop knowledge of PLCs is required.
- Experience using JDE or a similar CMMS, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, teamwork, and accurate technical documentation practices are required.
- The ability to prioritize maintenance activities, recognize potential equipment issues, and escalate concerns appropriately is required.
- A commitment to safe work practices, continuous learning, and collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams is required.
