About the role
Original posting provided by amazon
In this role, you are the dedicated subject matter expert responsible for the inspection, commissioning verification, and specification conformance of commercial refrigeration systems — including CO₂/transcritical and conventional architectures — as they are installed at new builds, retrofits, and expansions. You verify that what is designed, specified, and installed will operate as intended, and you drive the early detection and prevention of defects before they reach launch and operations.
You serve as the primary technical interface between Amazon and its external partners — general contractors (GC), architects of record (AoR), design engineers, third-party commissioning agents, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) — while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders across Design, Construction, Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME), and Operations. You operate with a high degree of independence within your assigned region, supporting multiple concurrent sites, and this role requires 80% regional travel within North America.
Key job responsibilities
Refrigeration Quality Inspection & Field Verification Conduct field inspections of installed commercial refrigeration systems — piping, compressors, rack systems, evaporators, condensers, door hardware, sensors, and controls — to verify conformance to approved plans, Amazon standards, and applicable codes. Identify installation defects and non-conformances and drive their correction with the responsible owner.
Commissioning, IOQ & Performance Validation Witness operational, pressure, and leak tests. Perform installation, operational, and performance qualifications (IOQ) and review commissioning submittals and turnover documentation. Validate that monitoring and alarming (CO₂ and refrigerant leak detection) function reliably under real field conditions — not merely at sign-off.
Specification & Standards Conformance Review design documents, drawings, and specifications for conformance; identify gaps early. Confirm as-built conditions match approved specs, and define testing and acceptance criteria.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management Partner with contractors, design engineers, and commissioning agents to set quality expectations and hold partners accountable. Collaborate with Design, Construction, RME, and Operations teams. Audit vendor performance and address underperformance directly.
Documentation, Data & Reporting Prepare inspection and verification reports, maintain quality data, analyze defect trends, and lead process improvements that move quality upstream — from reactive field correction to prevention by design.
A day in the life
You support one or more refrigeration sites that vary in scope, complexity, and phase of delivery. Your day may include a site walk to inspect piping, rack systems, and door hardware against approved specs; witnessing a leak or operational test and verifying that CO₂ detection and alarming respond correctly; and reviewing a third-party commissioning exit report and IOQ package. You may flag a non-conformance — such as a sensor that passes commissioning but fails to alarm in a simulated leak — and drive resolution with GC and design team. Throughout, you communicate progress and risk and keep Amazon's systems current.
