The Mainframe & SWIFT Application Support Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end support, monitoring, and incident management of our Mainframe accounting processes and SWIFT messaging flows. The role ensures operational stability, data accuracy, and timely processing of financial transactions, supporting business-critical fund accounting and custody operations.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced Application Support Specialist with strong expertise in SWIFT-integrated, fund accounting, custody operations and mainframe ecosystems to support and modernize mission-critical financial applications. The team supports high-volume, highly secure financial systems operating across SWIFT secure zones, cloud-native platforms (AWS/Azure), and legacy mainframe technologies (e.g., IBM Z). These platforms are undergoing transformation to hybrid architectures, combining mainframe stability with cloud scalability and automation. The ideal candidate will play a key role in driving DevSecOps/SRE practices across heterogeneous environments, ensuring secure, resilient, and automated delivery pipelines.

Why this role is important to us

Our technology function, Global Technology Services (GTS), underpins critical financial operations including payments, messaging, and settlement systems integrated with SWIFT networks.

This role is central to:

  • Maintaining the security and integrity of SWIFT-connected applications, which operate within tightly controlled secure network zones and access models
  • Enabling cloud transformation of legacy mainframe workloads, improving agility, observability, and resilience
  • Strengthening compliance with internal controls, external audits, and regulatory requirements tied to financial messaging and data protection

You will contribute to the firm’s broader transformation by bridging traditional mainframe operations with modern cloud-native DevSecOps/SRE practices.

What you will be responsible for

Key Responsibilities

  • SWIFT Platform Application Support

    • Manage and enforce security controls aligned with SWIFT CSP requirements across infrastructure, access models, and deployment pipelines
    • Support secure connectivity to SWIFT applications
    • Automate compliance checks and audit readiness processes
  • Mainframe & Legacy Integration

    • Support integration between mainframe platforms (e.g., IBM Z, Tandem/NonStop) and modern cloud-based services
    • Enable zDevOps / modern DevOps practices for mainframe workloads, including version control, automated deployments, and testing
    • Collaborate with mainframe operations teams to improve reliability and change management processes
    • DevSecOps & Automation

      • Embed security controls into the CI/CD pipeline (shift-left security)
      • Enhance application security (authentication, SSO, API gateways) and encryption standards
      • Reduce manual interventions through automation and runbook engineering (AWS/Azure)
    • Observability & Resilience

      • Implement monitoring and alerting across hybrid platforms using tools such as Prometheus, Splunk, Grafana, and enterprise monitoring tools
      • Improve system resilience, capacity planning, and incident response
      • Lead root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for production incidents
    • Collaboration & Delivery

      • Work across application support, infrastructure, cloud, and vendor teams (e.g., SWIFT, managed services)
      • Support major transformation initiatives involving system migrations from mainframe to cloud
      • Ensure alignment between development, operations, and security teams

    Education & Preferred Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree
    • 5+ years' experience as a Application Support Engineer in financial services
    • Strong knowledge of mainframe systems (IBM Z, Tandem/NonStop, or similar)
    • Good knowledge of SWIFT-connected platforms and secure environments
    • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
    • Experience managing hybrid architectures (mainframe + distributed + cloud)

    Technical Skills

    • Expertise in CICS, COBOL, DB2 and JCL
    • Monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or AppDynamics
    • Scripting and automation using Python, Shell, or similar

    What we offer

This is an opportunity to work on business-critical payment and financial platforms at the intersection of SWIFT, Mainframe Accounting and cloud transformation.

    Salary Range:

    $91,000 - $140,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
