Job Description

Position Summary


As a Project Manager, you will lead the development of advanced Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) products from concept through industrialization.


You will lead multidisciplinary teams across Systems Engineering, Software, Mechanics, Electronics, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, and Service, taking ownership of projects from planning through successful delivery.


You will typically manage several projects or activities in parallel, ranging from new product development and platform enhancements to technology introductions and cost-reduction initiatives.


This role is part of the expansion of our Brno Development Center. You will work closely with our Innovation and Architecture team in Eindhoven while helping strengthen project execution capabilities in Brno.


Our Technology


Our Desktop SEM business develops advanced scanning electron microscopes used worldwide in materials science, manufacturing, research, and quality assurance. Our products combine:


  • Electron optics and vacuum technology
  • Precision mechanics and mechatronics
  • Embedded electronics
  • Scientific software and user interfaces
  • Image acquisition and analysis
  • Manufacturing automation and system integration


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead multidisciplinary product development projects from concept through product release and industrialization.
  • Own project scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality, and key deliverables.
  • Lead cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, service, and other functions.
  • Develop project plans, establish priorities, monitor progress, and drive execution.
  • Balance technical performance, business needs, quality, cost, and schedule when making project decisions.
  • Identify project risks, drive mitigation plans, and manage engineering changes.
  • Build alignment between technical and business stakeholders and facilitate timely decision-making.
  • Communicate project status, risks, priorities, and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Manage external suppliers and development partners where required.
  • Prepare and lead project reviews and stage-gate deliverables.
  • Ensure projects follow applicable Thermo Fisher Scientific product development and quality processes.
  • Support effective collaboration and knowledge transfer between Brno and Eindhoven.

What We’re Looking For


  • University degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience in complex high-tech product development.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary technical projects.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in an engineering environment.
  • Strong project planning, budgeting, resource management, and risk management skills.
  • Ability to understand and manage dependencies across mechanics, electronics, software, and manufacturing.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Experience with structured product development methodologies such as stage-gate, V-model, Agile, or similar.
  • Ability to make decisions and drive progress in complex technical environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.

Nice to Have


Experience with SEM or scientific instrumentation, complex mechatronic products, external development partners, supplier management, product lifecycle management, Jama, Jira, or similar engineering and project management tools would be an advantage.
