Position Summary

As a Scientist on the Analytical Development Potency team at BMS, you will help advance analytical strategies that bring transformative therapies from the bench to patients. This hands-on, autonomous role designs, develops, and executes complex potency cell-based assays, flow cytometry workflows, and immunoassays. As a subject matter expert, you will lead method transfer and validation. Working with limited supervision in a cross-functional environment, you will apply strong scientific judgment, communicate clearly, and contribute to project decisions and method implementation in GMP Analytical Development and Quality Control settings.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Expertise & Strategy

  • Applies broad expertise in analytical development and working knowledge, including awareness of technical advances impacting the field, to advance analytical strategies and project objectives.
  • Proficient in scientific/technical data review and writing, including regulatory documents, protocols, and literature assessments to solve complex problems.

Experimental Design & Execution

  • Independently designs, executes, analyzes and evaluates hypothesis-driven experiments; and based on interpretation of results, defines appropriate next steps.
  • Interprets and communicates study results, ensures conclusions are scientifically rigorous, well documented, and actionable.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

  • Identifies, investigates, and resolves technical and method-related challenges of moderate to high complexity through systematic troubleshooting and sound scientific judgment.
  • Makes timely, tactical, data-driven decisions with little to no direction from senior team members, including assay optimization for robustness, throughput, and reproducibility, identifying new solutions or developing procedures where none exist.

Documentation & Data Integrity

  • Performs data verification, data review, and documentation reviews across multiple methods and/or products.
  • Authors, reviews, and revises technical documents such as SOPs, development reports, method validation reports.

Method Expertise & Quality

  • Serves as subject matter expert (SME) supporting method transfer, validation, and routine testing of in-process, final product, and stability samples.
  • Cross-trained on multiple complex analytical methods and/or products.
  • Owns project, deviation/investigation and continuous improvement efforts.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and evaluates innovative technologies, approaches, and workflows that enhance analytical capability, efficiency, and data quality.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves technical challenges, identifies solutions and contributes to the development of new approaches where no established procedure exists with minimal supervision.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serves as a technical point of contact or SME. May represent the team in internal and external meetings clearly communicating recommendations, risks, and results
  • Represents Analytical Development on cross-functional program teams, building effective partnerships, and contributing scientific expertise to shared objectives.
  • Trains others on multiple methods, processes, and procedures; Mentors junior scientists and contributes to the broader scientific strategy of BMS.

Project Management

  • Manages assigned work with limited supervision, balancing priorities, and delivering high-quality results in alignment with project timelines.

Working Conditions

  • Laboratory-based role requiring the use of analytical instrumentation, biological safety cabinets, and cell culture facilities.
  • Hands-on work with biological materials, mammalian cell lines, and reagents requiring adherence to appropriate biosafety protocols.
  • May require occasional flexibility in scheduling or traveling to support time-sensitive studies or cross-site collaboration.

Qualifications and experience

  • Master’s (Preferred PhD) in relevant scientific field i.e., immunology, molecular biology and cell biology
  • 4-6+ years of relevant experience in assay(s) development or QC/cGMP experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in potency assay development and execution.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis tools such as JMP, SAS, or equivalent.
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey project status, roadblocks, and needs to peers, management, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of QbD, ICH guidelines, and global regulatory guidance.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills, with the ability to manage deliverables across multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Compensation Overview:

Cambridge - MA - US: $106,010 - $128,462

The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully – carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, you may be eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefit plans – including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and insurance offerings (medical, dental, vision, life and disability).


U.S.-based exempt employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off (FTO), which provides paid time off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, along with 11 paid company holidays each year.


Non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico receive 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires (subject to manager approval), 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.


Depending on eligibility, employees may also have access to additional time-off benefits, including paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs. Eligible employees also enjoy an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
