Title and Summary
Director, Software EngineeringOverview• This position is for a member of the MasterCard development leadership focusing on development of MasterCard Enterprise security solutions dispute products.
• Provides management direction and recommends strategic directions based on established policy. Project and release management responsibilities. The position requires strong project management, technical, interpersonal, communication and people management skills
• Leads and manages staff and assures staffing, training and objective setting. Candidates should have extensive understanding and knowledge of leading development and PDLC practices as well as experience with managing development teams.
• Recommends changes, implementations and bring customer first mindset. Interacts with developers and stakeholders to identify scope of project, delivers on objectives, and supports customers.
Role and Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and technical direction to a software development team across PDLC (Product Delivery Lifecycle).
• Proven people management capabilities to hire, coach, mentor, appraise while working with stakeholders (Product, Engineering, Operations, Cross programs team at various levels ) to ensure alignment toward organization and program objectives.
• Establish a great working relationship with people outside of the development team including people like Product Managers, and other functional teams within the organization.
• Ensure product development meets MasterCard’s business needs.
• Ensure development teams use the appropriate MasterCard standard development methodologies and follow our technology standards, and that all projects and development are appropriately documented.
• Establish & monitor objectives for the department and staff members to align with department strategies and objectives.
• Successfully lead definition, development and delivery of major cross-department initiatives with broad scope and long-term business implications.
Partner with business to identify innovative solutions and drive strategic decisions. Develop business case in alignment with the MasterCard objectives. Actively look for opportunities for Innovation and creative problem solving. Make presentations to the Senior Management, Business Owners and other Stakeholders and help them in decision making process.
• Provide recommendation to Senior Management on selection of technologies and strategic technical direction for the department.
• Lead implementation of processes and supporting tools per the evolving needs of the organization. Identifying process gaps, provide estimates for business solutions, define the initial scope/requirements of the project and manage the scope during the lifecycle of the project. Plan overall project scope as well as define scope for each phase and iteration to meet business needs/time-to-market needs.
• Work closely with cross functional teams and architects to technically (with but not limited to Java/J2EE, Springboot, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Gen/Agentic AI in tech and architecture like event driven, microservice, pipe filter) and functionally align
• Ensure the project or effort is adequately staffed; trained and managed. Ensure personnel have appropriate skills and behaviors; and effectively communicate performance results; as necessary, managing each effort within approved manpower and budget guidelines.
• Build and maintain high team morale
• Perform strategic planning; financial planning; administration and management of the department.
• Respond to operational and business concerns or issues relative to future business programs, projects, or enhancements to ensure consistent delivery of quality services. Budget and Resource Management experience.
All About You
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology related field or equivalent work experience.
• Previous experience in the Payments Industry recommended.
• Requires the ability to hire, lead and manage senior technical individual contributor and management staffs with the ability to foster open communications across various organizational levels.
• Requires to be technically sound with but not limited to architecture (like event driven, microservice, pipe filter), Java/J2EE, Springboot, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Gen and Agentic AI in tech.
• Requires technical and people management skills to lead, appraise, motivate direct and indirect reports to deliver superior results.
• Requires the skills to provide functional, technical hands-on and directional guidance to staff and recommend policy, program objectives, strategic direction changes to management.
• Requires to bring in top notch people management capabilities to hire, coach, mentor, appraise while working with stakeholders (Product, Engineering, Operations, Cross programs team at various levels ) to ensure alignment toward organization and program objectives.
• Managing financials for multiple projects and programs.
• Requires the ability to interact across multiple organizational levels and assume a lead role and set direction for large or complex projects.
• Aptitude, ability, and experience interacting with business partners.
• Strong Analytical, technical, planning and communication skills
• Strong understanding of software methodologies (i.e. functionality, technical & limitations)
• High energy, can-do attitude, strong desire to succeed in a collaborative environment
