About the role
Original posting provided by Microsoft
The Microsoft 365 Core Platform team is hiring a Senior Product Manager to help drive infrastructure efficiency across Microsoft 365 and Copilot. This role focuses on optimizing infrastructure demand, improving resource utilization, creating capacity, and lowering the cost of operating hyperscale cloud services.
As AI adoption and infrastructure demand continue to grow, Microsoft 365 must scale efficiently across compute, memory, storage, and other shared infrastructure resources. The role works at the intersection of product management, engineering, data, infrastructure, and AI to identify high-value efficiency opportunities, translate them into product and engineering investments, and drive measurable outcomes across Microsoft 365 and Azure.
The Senior Product Manager will use telemetry, operational signals, benchmarking, experimentation, and cost data to identify infrastructure demand drivers, quantify opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and prioritize investments that improve platform efficiency. The role spans workload placement, utilization, capacity management, fleet optimization, resource allocation, rightsizing, autoscaling, and software and architectural optimization.
This is an AI-first product management role. The role applies AI agents, automation, AIOps, telemetry, and AI-driven analysis to identify inefficiencies, investigate root causes, evaluate optimization opportunities, accelerate execution, and validate results. The role also contributes to building scalable systems and mechanisms that make efficiency work more proactive, repeatable, and data driven.
The role partners closely with service owners, architects, infrastructure engineers, data scientists, finance, and capacity teams across Microsoft 365 and Azure. It is well suited to a technical product manager who can move comfortably between infrastructure architecture, quantitative analysis, product strategy, and execution while driving impact across organizational boundaries.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Our employees bring a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize shared goals. We build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
Identify and prioritize infrastructure efficiency opportunities across Microsoft 365 and Copilot workloads to reduce resource consumption, improve utilization, increase capacity, and lower operating cost.
Translate resource demand, workload growth, utilization patterns, and capacity constraints into actionable product investments, roadmaps, and engineering priorities.
Apply AI agents, automation, telemetry analysis, benchmarking, and experimentation to detect inefficiencies, investigate root causes, identify bottlenecks, and validate optimization opportunities.
Partner closely with engineering teams to understand workload behavior, system architecture, deployment constraints, and performance characteristics in order to drive practical efficiency improvements.
Drive optimization initiatives across compute, storage, networking, data platforms, fleet management, workload placement, autoscaling, resource allocation, and service operations.
Use telemetry, cost signals, operational data, and performance measurements to quantify opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and support investment decisions with data.
Develop business cases that connect technical improvements to measurable outcomes, including capacity creation, utilization improvements, cost reduction, performance, reliability, and platform scalability.
Define product requirements, success metrics, experiments, and validation plans for infrastructure efficiency investments and optimization efforts.
Build scalable mechanisms including recommendation systems, scorecards, opportunity tracking, and self-service capabilities that help teams identify and act on efficiency opportunities.
Coordinate execution across engineering, infrastructure, capacity planning, finance, and service teams to deliver measurable efficiency outcomes.
Track and communicate progress against efficiency goals, ensuring opportunities move from discovery through implementation and impact validation.
Translate complex technical findings into clear recommendations, roadmaps, and decision material for engineering leaders and stakeholders.
