We are the Reliability backbone of Microsoft, providing the foundation for teams across the company to analyze and resolve production issues spanning operating systems, silicon platforms, and cloud environments. We deliver global-scale diagnostics pipelines and analysis platforms that help engineers understand complex systems, operate critical services, and maintain the quality of some of the world's largest technology ecosystems.

Our team is looking for a Principal Product Manager to help define our next wave of innovation.

In this role, you will define the future of Microsoft's reliability intelligence platform, shaping how engineers access insights, make decisions, and leverage AI throughout the diagnostics and investigation lifecycle. You will drive strategy for next-generation capabilities spanning diagnostics, automation, and engineering data, balancing immediate customer needs with long-term platform evolution.

To deliver on this strategy, you will work across Microsoft's largest engineering organizations to align priorities, influence investment decisions, and create a shared vision. Success in this role requires navigating complex stakeholder landscapes, identifying emerging opportunities, and translating diverse organizational needs into a cohesive product strategy that delivers lasting impact across Microsoft.

Responsibilities
  • Brings together internal customer groups around a specific scenario and engages in direct 1:1 (e.g., visits, interviews) or many (e.g., social media, events) customer engagements to solicit feedback and understand their experiences using industry-accepted methods.

  • Leads process defining problems and incubating solutions for a team or organization.

  • Works across multiple feature areas (e.g., product, service) across organizational boundaries. Defines or influences the success criteria, long-term vision, and strategy for the feature areas based on a deep understanding of customer needs, market and user research, the industry landscape, and Microsoft’s business goals and strategy.

  • Owns and drives the roadmap for the multiple feature areas (e.g., product, service) they own across divisional boundaries. Prioritizes the backlog, works with internal partners (e.g. SWE and HWE) to align on tradeoffs, and ensures dependencies are identified and accounted for. 

  • Acts as a trusted advisor in identifying AI-informed, long-term or overall solution-level investment opportunities, evaluating tradeoffs, and prioritizing investments in consultation with cross organizational partners across divisional boundaries.

  • Coaches and mentors internal team to develop problem statements and forms hypotheses of new feature areas (e.g., product, service) across divisional boundaries to address highly complex customer needs and/or market opportunities.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
 
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
  • 4+ years of experience defining and delivering products, services, or platforms at enterprise or cloud scale.
  • 4+ years of experience driving product strategy and execution across multiple teams or organizations.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
