The AI, Research and MarTech team unites Research and MarTech platforms to listen deeply to our customers and respond precisely through digital channels. About the Role

 

We are seeking a Market Research Manager with strong project management, analytical, and consultation skills to help grow Microsoft’s Commercial Cloud and AI and GitHub businesses. You will bring a deep understanding of developers building AI apps and agents or using AI-assisted workflows, uncovering what drives their choices, trust, and advocacy.

 

You’ll combine AI-powered platforms, human expertise, and modern research methods to deliver fast, high-quality insights across products such as GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, Azure, and Microsoft Foundry. Your work will inform business challenges such as prioritizing new product concepts and features, refining developer positioning and messaging, and measuring Microsoft and GitHub brand strength.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with product marketing teams to frame business needs into research objectives, hypotheses, projects, and programs.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, bringing together colleagues, market research agencies, and stakeholders to answer key business questions.
  • Use emerging AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate research and deliver clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to look across data sources, synthesize insights across different data types (qualitative, quantitative, social intelligence, and/or behavioral), and translate insights into recommendations to inform business critical decisions.
  • Develop expertise in developer tools and experiences.  Discover what earns developer trust, affinity and advocacy.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field AND 2+ years experience in data science, research, marketing or business-related roles. OR Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field. OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field AND 5+ years experience in data science, research, marketing or business-related roles OR Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field AND 3+ years experience in data science, research, marketing or business-related roles. OR Doctorate in Business, Marketing, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with B2B market research, products, or product management, , especially developer audiences, tools or platforms; curiosity about AI-assisted development and developer communities. 
  • Experience working with market research agencies or in a market research agency to design and execute different types of research.
  • Proficiency with productivity software (e.g., Microsoft 365/Office 365, Google Apps/Workspaces) and communication/collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom, etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual storytelling skills to design research, deliver insights, and impact business decisions.

Market Research IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $86,100 - $169,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $113,300 - $187,400 per year.
