Role Summary
The Financial Controls Oversight (FCO) Team within the Corporate Functions & Financing Business Risk Management (CF BRM) organization provides oversight and management of State Street’s Global SOX Compliance program, ensuring financial reporting risk is managed in accordance with applicable SEC regulations. The FCO team provides the framework, methodology, policies, procedures, and guidelines for SOX Compliance, including activities supporting the quarterly and annual CEO and CFO SOX certifications. The FCO team also ensures existence of an optimized and sustainable internal control over financial reporting environment and provides independent assurance through testing State Street’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Controls Oversight Team, the Vice President will be a key member of the FCO global leadership team and will work closely with our business and external auditors in driving the successful completion of the annual SOX program. The Vice President will manage all members of the team in Bangalore on an effective and sustainable internal control over financial reporting program.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of the Company’s Internal Control over Financial Reporting compliance to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Actively engage and drive improvement in all aspects of SOX Compliance, including but not limited to, annual planning, financial statement risk assessment / scoping, identification, evaluation and remediation of deficiencies, and management reporting to support quarterly and annual CEO and CFO SOX certifications
- Manage and perform annual and quarterly SOX scoping assessments to identify the significant general ledger accounts, business processes, geographical locations, and key systems and/or applications that may have high exposure to financial statement misstatement risks
- Review and assess the significance to SOX controls and materiality of all non-SOX testing program owned issues that are identified by First, Second, and Third Line of Defense
- Evaluate SOX controls deficiencies under PCAOB standards for forming quarterly and annual SOX opinion and document in memo format the assessment of the deficiencies
- Assess the financial statement risks and analyze the overall impact for ad-hoc issues / events / incidents
- Partner with external audit teams to understand audit requirements and PCAOB focus areas for timely integration into SOX program management
- Participate in the preparation of monthly SOX effectiveness reporting and SOX control deficiency reporting
- Drive change management and AI-driven process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, strengthen scalability, and maintain an optimized control environment
- Continuously develop a dedicated team to support execution of a best-in-class SOX Compliance program
- Earn a reputation as a leader and subject matter expert to the organization on Internal Control over Financial Reporting
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certified Public Accountant
- Strong accounting background with theoretical and practical knowledge of US GAAP, SOX 404, and SEC financial reporting standards
- 10+ years of progressive SOX Audit experience, Big 4 firm practice testing controls; preferably financial services
- Stay current on new technical literature applicable to internal control over financial reporting (PCAOB guidance, SEC, etc.)
- Strong written communication skills
- Collaborative, quick learner, team player and good under pressure, ability to multi-task and participate in various projects/process improvement; ability to effectively challenge and influence
- Ability to prioritize and drive results in a deadline driven environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
