Who we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced financial services executive to lead Portfolio Services for a major strategic client within Global Middle Office. The Managing Director will be the senior accountable owner for client outcomes, daily service performance, Investment Book of Record (IBOR) integrity, cash and position readiness, risk and control, operating-model effectiveness, and a large global direct and matrixed organization.

The successful candidate will combine deep investment-operations expertise, executive presence and sound risk judgment with the ability to align Operations, Technology, Product, Data, Risk, Finance and Relationship Management around measurable client outcomes.

Why this role is important to us

Portfolio Services provides the operational readiness, data integrity and control required for portfolio management, trading, reporting and investment decision-making. This role creates one point of senior accountability across the global service model and ensures service, risk, transformation and commercial priorities are managed as an integrated agenda.

What you will be responsible for

Client ownership and governance

  • Own the global client relationship: be accountable for service quality, client experience, executive engagement and delivery against agreed outcomes.
  • Lead governance and escalation: run disciplined service and risk forums; assign clear owners and dates; and lead material service, cash, data, control and technology issues through sustainable closure.
  • Represent the client: translate priorities and feedback into coordinated global action while balancing contractual, risk and commercial considerations.

Service delivery and operational excellence

  • Own end-to-end delivery: ensure accurate, timely and complete IBOR, position and cash information, including same-day cash forecasting and start-of-day readiness.
  • Drive consistent execution: establish common standards, controls, management routines and service measures across regions and operating centres.
  • Strengthen resilience: maintain capacity, cross-training, succession, business-continuity and follow-the-sun arrangements for critical services and handoffs.

Risk, control and regulatory accountability

  • Maintain a robust first-line control environment: ensure policies, procedures, controls and delegated authorities are effective and consistently followed.
  • Reduce operational risk: oversee incidents, aged items, claims and remediation; apply root-cause analysis and lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide transparent assurance: keep senior management, legal-entity boards, and second and third lines of defence informed of material matters; lead audit, regulatory and due-diligence engagement.

Operating model, transformation and technology

  • Optimize the operating model: use scale, standardization, technology and geographic coverage to deliver an efficient, resilient end-to-end service.
  • Sponsor change and transformation: lead onboarding, migrations, automation, data-quality improvements and process simplification through controlled implementation and stabilization.
  • Partner across the enterprise: define requirements, challenge solution design, oversee readiness and evaluate the resource, technology, risk and commercial implications of new requests.

Financial, commercial and people leadership

  • Own financial and workforce performance: manage budgets, headcount, location strategy and productivity while protecting service quality and control.
  • Understand client economics: support scope, pricing and investment decisions with clear cost and resource analysis.
  • Lead a high-performing global organization: set clear accountabilities, develop leadership depth and succession, and model One State Street ownership, integrity and collaboration.

What we value

  • Executive presence and the ability to build trust with senior client and internal stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of institutional investment operations, Middle Office services, IBOR, cash and position management, Fund Accounting and Custody.
  • Strong risk judgment and experience leading material incidents, remediation, audits, regulatory engagement and operational resilience.
  • Ability to lead large, geographically distributed direct and matrixed teams through accountability and influence.
  • Commercial and financial acumen, including workforce planning, productivity, service scope and investment prioritization.
  • A record of delivering technology-enabled transformation, automation and continuous improvement in a regulated environment.
  • Clear executive communication and the ability to simplify complex operational, technology and risk matters.

Education and preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Technology or a related discipline; an advanced degree or relevant professional qualification is preferred.
  • Typically 15+ years of relevant financial-services experience, including substantial senior leadership responsibility in investment operations, asset servicing or middle-office outsourcing.
  • Proven accountability for a large, complex strategic client relationship or global service-delivery organization.
  • Experience leading teams across multiple regions and operating centers in a complex matrixed environment.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-asset investment operations, operating-model design, major change programs, service governance, and risk and control frameworks.
  • US shift coverage is a requirement for this role.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
