Description
APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Develop and optimize automated measurement systems from ideation to deployment. Detail mechanical design of manual and automated measurement and calibration systems (including component and materials selection, 3D/2D CAD, mechanism design, FEA). Collaborate with vendors to develop measurement systems and improve manufacturing and metrology capabilities and processes. Manage vendor prototyping schedule and manufacturing plan. Support new product failure analysis and continuous improvements in product manufacturability and performance contribute to the production of the highest quality products available. Support new vendor development to expand Apple's vendor base with regards to capability, capacity, and geographical influence. Collaborate with DRI and design teams to determine measurement system requirements. Collaborating with PD teams to both inform unit design to enable optimized calibration/testing at factory and to inform measurement system design for proper unit constraint. Engineer activity to support complex system integration design and validation. Analyze materials utilized in fixture designs, for strength, thermal stability, wear, friction, fatigue, weight, deflection, stiffness, etc. Analyze system level worst case and statistical tolerance loop to encompass component fabrication, thermal drift, fit of elements, sensor capabilities, wear, and test parametric interaction. Drive failure analysis activity of processes and complex system assemblies at contract manufacturers' and vendors' sites. Identify corrective action, implementing, and overseeing at manufacturers' and vendors' sites to implement fixes identified through FA activity. Define standard operation procedures to be followed by vendors and contract manufacturers, define fixture/station assembly, calibration, test, validation, and maintenance activity. Support equipment design, deployment, and validation. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 - $225,300/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
1 year of experience with each of the following skills is required:
Designing and validating complex electro-mechanical systems for use in consumer electronics calibration, testing and validation.
Generating functional test station design specifications to meet product characterization and performance verification
Utilizing 3D CAD software to design, develop, and maintain system models.
Performing detailed tolerance analysis of system designs to verify capability assessment
Managing detailed schedules and working directly with vendors on manufacturing, deployment, and risk mitigation of designs.
Performing failure analysis and hardware debug to solve complex technical issues that arise during development.
Communicating technical topics to technical and non-technical cross functional partners.
Using lab equipment including CMMs, OMMs, gauge blocks, or other inspection equipment to take quality measurements of critical components.
