Digital Finance Transformation Consultant

Career level: Consultant (CL9)  |  Location: London / Manchester / Edinburgh  |  Practice: Finance Reinvention Partner (Platform Transformation)

Why this role

This is where a finance-transformation consultant builds the advisory credibility that gets you asked for by name. You'll sit with a client's finance team, work out what is wrong with how they run today, and help design what should replace it: the processes, the finance structure underneath them, and the technology that carries them. You're not tied to one ERP. This is advisory work across the finance-technology landscape, so you'll build a view of what different platforms are good for instead of going deep on one product. You'll grow quickly, on real programmes, alongside people who design this work for a living.

Accenture is a leading solutions and services company. Our strategy is to be the reinvention partner of choice for our clients and lead in the safe, widespread adoption of AI. We bring together our people, deep industry expertise and technology to deliver end-to-end outcomes for clients — and Finance is one of seven Reinvention Partners at the centre of that. Finance RP brings the CFO agenda to life for clients — stronger performance, sharper insight, and better control.

"Every leader needs to think of themselves as a reinventor. … Being a reinventor is believing that every part of the enterprise and their product has to be reinvented using tech, data, AI—new ways of working, new ways of engaging." — Julie Sweet, Chair and CEO

What you'll bring

Workshops, requirements and problem definition. Much of this role happens in a room with the client. You'll take part in design and discovery workshops and run them yourself as you grow into it. That means preparing the material, getting the right questions asked, keeping a mixed group of finance and technology people to the point, and writing up what was agreed so it holds afterwards. You gather and structure business requirements, and you define a problem properly before jumping to a solution: what is happening, what it costs the finance function, and what would have to change. You produce clear analysis and options that inform the decisions the lead takes.

Finance process design and fit-to-standard. A working knowledge of the core finance processes (Record-to-Report, Order-to-Cash, Purchase-to-Pay and Acquire-to-Retire) and real skill in designing and improving them, across general accounting, close and consolidation, external and management reporting, intercompany, finance master data and finance controls. You contribute to fit-to-standard and fit-gap work, comparing what a client does today against what the target platform and good practice support, then helping turn the result into a process design the business will run. That design closes faster, reports with more confidence, and strengthens control.

Enterprise structure and chart of accounts. A working grounding in the finance backbone: legal entities and company codes, ledgers, the controlling and profit-centre model, cost-centre and hierarchy design, and the chart of accounts across it. You're aware of why these decisions shape everything downstream and are expensive to revisit once a programme is moving. You'll gather the reporting and statutory requirements that drive the structure, document how it hangs together, and prepare the options and analysis behind the calls the design lead makes.

Platform breadth and conversational fluency. You'll have worked on an enterprise finance platform programme (SAP, Oracle, Workday or a comparable finance platform) and come away understanding how one runs: how a design gets agreed and built, what "standard" means in practice, and why a decision taken early is hard to unpick later. This is a technology-agnostic role, so the platform matters far less than the judgement and the breadth you bring. What we need is someone who can hold a sensible conversation with a client across a range of platform topics, not someone led by a single product. You'll contribute to technology selection and vendor assessment, comparing platforms against what the client needs, and supporting the value case and the return on a platform investment that helps a CFO back the decision.

AI in finance processes, and in how we deliver. We expect you to be fluent in this. You should be able to talk credibly with a client about what AI is doing to the finance function: where it is changing a process, in reconciliations, close tasks, intercompany matching, variance commentary, forecasting and controls monitoring, and where it is not there yet. You should understand why the answer usually turns on the state of the data, the controls and the process rather than the tool. You'll contribute to designing AI-enabled ways of working into a target process: what an agent runs, what a person approves, and where the human check sits. And you'll work that way yourself. We're increasingly an AI-first delivery team, bringing agentic tooling and orchestration into how we design, analyse and deliver, with our people owning the judgement and the outcome. This is advisory work, not engineering: at this level we're looking for genuine fluency and current awareness, not a delivery track record in AI.

Working with clients, and how the work gets done. You'll hold the day-to-day client relationships around your scope, with the people who trust you because you turn up prepared, do what you said, and tell them early when something is harder than it looked. You own your scope and follow it through, manage expectations and timelines, and hold realistic boundaries. You'll contribute to target operating model work: how the finance function, its shared-services or GBS arrangements and its process ownership need to work once the platform lands. You're comfortable working in a design-thinking, agile way, co-developing solutions with the client in the room, not through documents alone.

Who you are

You take ownership and follow through. You work well in a team and build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues. You're comfortable with ambiguity inside a complex finance organisation, you bring good judgement and critical thinking to problems that aren't fully defined, and you're clear and considered in how you explain your reasoning. You're credible across all levels of a client's management and can explain a technical point to a mixed room without losing either half of it. You're closely engaged with what AI is changing in finance: you follow it, you've formed your own view, and you can talk about it with a client instead of repeating what a vendor told them. You're early in your trajectory and set on building the rest.

Things that set strong candidates apart: experience across more than one ERP or finance platform rather than a single one; running workshops and discovery sessions with client finance teams; contributing to a technology selection or vendor assessment on a live transformation; an understanding of enterprise structure and chart-of-accounts design and why it shapes everything downstream; hands-on exposure to AI or agentic tooling in a finance or delivery setting; fluency in design-thinking and agile delivery methods; an awareness of how controls, intercompany or tax considerations shape a finance design; and a professional finance or accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent industry experience).

If you have most of this and the drive to build the rest, we want to hear from you. Tell us what you'd bring.

About Finance RP

Within Accenture, the Finance Reinvention Partner helps clients improve financial performance around the CFO agenda — driving best-in-class performance, and sharper insight and benchmarking across the enterprise. In the UK and Ireland, our Finance RP practice brings together finance strategy and the platforms it runs on, including SAP, Oracle, Workday and EPM.

You'd join our Platforms transformation offering within the practice: a growing team advising clients across the full finance-technology landscape — helping them choose the right platform, design the process, enterprise structure and operating model around it, and lead the change. Because the role is platform-agnostic, you build genuine breadth here early, while staying close to the CFO agenda the work serves.

What's in it for you

Alongside a competitive salary and package (dependent on experience) for a Consultant (CL9) role, you'll have an extensive benefits package including 30 days' holiday a year, private medical insurance, and 3 additional days' leave a year for charitable work of your choice.
