Job Description:
Executive Summary and Mission
The discovery landscape is undergoing a foundational shift. Today, buyers and decision-makers do not merely search for links, they query conversational AI engines and Large Language Models (LLMs) to make critical vendor and technology recommendations.
Our mandate is clear: We do not just want to be visible; we want to be the brand and solution that is actively recommended.
The Discoverability Lead serves as the operational hub bridging AI discoverability intelligence (AEO/GEO/SEO) with our content creators, channel owners, and business unit go-to-market teams. Rather than getting bogged down in tool configuration or static dashboard maintenance, this individual's primary mission is to improve velocity from insights into omni-channel content activations.
Operating at the intersection of our Content and Experience Engine, broader Intelligence Systems, and Reputation/Narrative Frameworks, this role identifies narrative hot spots, surfaces high-impact optimization recommendations, and leverages automated/agentic routing so channel owners can execute swiftly across owned and earned touchpoints.
What Success Looks Like (Primary Objectives)
Insights to Action (Velocity and Execution): Transition discoverability data from retrospective reporting into a weekly operational rhythm where content, social, PR, web, and Business Unit (BU) teams receive crisp, prioritized, turnkey action briefs.
Recommendation and Citation Authority (Not Just Visibility): Increase our share of model recommendations, citation frequency, and favorable sentime
nt across target answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot) tied directly to strategic message pillars.
Agentic Workflow Governance and Grounding: Partner with internal FDEs and Intelligence Analysts to operationalize how intelligence flows across systems, ensuring agent-generated insights are accurate, high-context, hallucination-free, and directly executable by channel owners.
Holistic Discoverability Ecosystem: Connect Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) with foundational technical SEO, third-party authority hubs (e.g., Reddit, YouTube, GitHub, industry publications), and broader enterprise data streams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Intelligence, Monitoring and Hot-Spot Detection
- Monitor prompt sets, citation trends, and competitive positioning across generative engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini) using enterprise GEO tracking platforms (e.g., Profound, Peec AI, or comparable engines).
- Synthesize GEO intelligence with wider marketing intelligence streams (search trends, web analytics, social listening, competitive intelligence) so strategic decisions are never made in a single-data silo.
- Detect immediate hot spots-emerging conversational queries, sudden drops in model citation, competitive displacement, or narrative misalignment-and triage them based on business priority and narrative pillars.
2. Operational Orchestration and Translation to Channel Owners
- Serve as the central hub connecting insight to execution across a distributed network of content and channel leads (Social, Comms/PR, Product Marketing, Web/Digital Experience, Business Units, and Sales).
- Partner closely with our Head of Editorial and creative teams to weave discovery insights directly into storytelling, content roadmaps, and campaign development.
- Act as an expert translator, turning complex retrieval mechanics and LLM citation gaps into clear, non-technical, frictionless action briefs (e.g., passage rewrites, entity clarifications, schema updates, third-party citations).
- Maintain a recurring (weekly/bi-weekly) cadence of prioritized recommendations, tracking follow-through and measuring post-execution impact.
3. Agentic Workflow Management and Output Governance
- Serve as the functional power user and operational owner of how GEO intelligence is ingested, organized, and dispatched through workflow and automation layers.
- Partner closely with internal marketing automation and forward-deployed engineers to build, refine, and maintain the routing layers that deliver actionable alerts to channel queues and collaboration spaces.
- Enforce quality control and output governance: partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to audit AI-driven and agent-generated recommendation outputs to ensure they are grounded, strategically aligned, and hallucination-free before hitting production teams.
4. Technical Foundations and Content System Alignment
- Align discoverability recommendations with the enterprise content and digital experience architecture (structured data/JSON-LD schema, passage-level architecture, crawlability/rendering directives, entity clarity).
- Identify off-property authority sources that LLMs rely heavily upon for category recommendations (industry media, high-authority forums, community channels) and collaborate with Comms/PR and social teams to strengthen brand presence on those surfaces.
- Partner with narrative and strategy leads to ensure all prompt tracking and content initiatives align with corporate strategy, narrative pillars, and the broader VSEM framework-ensuring we lead where it matters most. Strategic Stakeholders and Key Partnerships
- Head of Editorial: Day-to-day strategic thought partner ensuring discoverability insights fuel our overarching narrative, content calendar, and story frameworks.
- Measurement and Analytics Team: Partners to standardize topical tracking, measure citation-to-pipeline influence, and refine executive dashboards.
- Marketing Engineers / Forward Deployed Engineers: Collaborates on the technical agentic pipeline, routing logic, and tool automation integrations.
- Channel and Content Owners (Spokes): Social, PR/Comms, Web, Editorial, Product Marketing, and Business Unit (BU) Go-to-Market leads who receive actionable briefs and execute in-market changes.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in any relevant field and 3-5 years of content development and operations, SEO, digital marketing analytics, or technical content strategy.
- Proven exposure to, or foundational understanding of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), or LLM citation-based search dynamics.
- Demonstrated track record of translating raw data and technical audits into actionable, bite-sized briefs that cross-functional teams can execute without excessive hand-holding.
- Foundational understanding of technical discovery fundamentals: structured data/schema, crawling/indexing concepts, passage-level optimization, and machine readability.
- Junior-to-mid-level systems thinking: structured mindset with experience building or maintaining lightweight routing frameworks, intake workflows, or tagging taxonomies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct hands-on experience with AI citation/visibility platforms (e.g., Profound, Peec AI, Scrunch, or enterprise SEO platforms like Conductor, BrightEdge, Semrush).
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, automation, or low-code logic (e.g., n8n, Zapier, Make, Power Automate, or Airtable automations) to understand how data triggers move through enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with off-property influence channels that feed LLM retrieval (e.g., Reddit, YouTube, tech forums, earned media).
- Experience navigating matrixed enterprise marketing environments.
- Intellectual Curiosity and Self-Starter: A natural desire to explore how AI discovery models work, experiment with emerging platforms, stay ahead of the evolving AEO/GEO frontier, and protype to demonstrate concepts.
- Relationship Builder: Exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills; skilled at fostering strong cross-functional partnerships across editorial, PR, web, product marketing, and engineering.
- Celebrates Small, Quick Wins: Energized by iterative progress; actively highlights, celebrates, and communicates tactical wins along the journey to build team momentum and trust.
- Strong Communicator: Clear, non-technical, and persuasive written and verbal communicator across messaging channels, briefs, and asynchronous updates as well as cross-team collaboration efforts.
