Position Summary

The Supply/Materials Planner II is a highly visible role reporting to the Materials Planning Manager at our Madison, WI site. In this position, you will play a key role in developing, maintaining and communicating supply and shipment plans that support customer delivery commitments, inventory objectives and site performance.

You will serve as a primary point of contact for supply planning and order scheduling activities for assigned product lines, including maintaining accurate planning and scheduling information in SAP. You will collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Operations, Product Management, Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Sales, Service and other Thermo Fisher Scientific sites around the world to identify risks, resolve constraints and support reliable customer delivery.

What Will You Do?

• Serve as a primary point of contact for the Madison site for supply planning, order scheduling and related communications for assigned product lines.
• Maintain and upload a detailed rolling 24-month supply plan in SAP.
• Create and maintain supply plans for finished products, accessories, spares and other approved materials.
• Review and schedule customer orders in SAP to support the site shipment plan and customer delivery commitments.
• Monitor supply and material availability, proactively escalating shortages, constraints and potential delivery impacts to appropriate stakeholders.
• Contribute to the Madison site’s On Time to Promise (OTTP) performance by identifying risks and coordinating actions to support customer commitments.
• Review End-of-Life (EOL) materials and product transitions to minimize excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory risk.
• Maintain appropriate SAP planning parameters to support inventory objectives, material availability and timely customer delivery.
• Support accurate inventory management related to the shipment plan, including work order creation/closing, cycle count and required SAP inventory transactions.
• Process and collaborate on Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) associated with assigned product lines.
• Lead or participate in supply planning and scheduling meetings, collaborating cross-functionally to identify issues, align priorities and drive timely resolution.
• Provide clear, accurate and timely planning information and responses to internal customers and stakeholders.
• Partner across functions to analyze and resolve supply chain challenges and drive continuous improvement.
• Support troubleshooting of site planning systems and databases as needed.
• Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions and other documentation related to planning responsibilities.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 2–3 years of experience in supply chain planning, materials planning or a related supply chain planning function; or
• Associate degree with 4–6 years of relevant supply planning experience.
• Experience working with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JDE or similar.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience working with data and analytical tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate supply, demand and inventory information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization and time management.
• Working knowledge of inventory management principles and supply chain planning practices.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Self-directed, proactive and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
• English language proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• SAP experience.
• APICS certification.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Experience with Practical Process Improvement (PPI), Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Knowledge of ISO or other applicable quality management standards.
• Additional language proficiency.
