Principal Software Engineering Manager

Help build the security foundations that protect Windows and Azure customers against today’s attacks and the rapidly evolving threats of tomorrow. The Windows Kernel Security Core team develops foundational operating system security technologies using virtualization, hardware-assisted isolation, and advances in processor architecture. You will work at the boundary between hardware and software to enable capabilities such as code integrity, Credential Guard, secure biometrics, secure hotpatching, and secure tracing and diagnostics across Windows and Azure.

As a Software Engineering Manager in the Windows Kernel Security Core team, you will lead a team of engineers developing security-critical, low-level platform technologies. You will guide architecture, implementation, validation, and delivery while working across Windows, Azure, security, and silicon partner teams to define technical direction and deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance solutions. • Guide partnerships with appropriate stakeholders to determine user, security, and platform requirements within and across teams
• Lead the team in identifying dependencies and developing architecture and design documents for operating system security features and foundational platform capabilities
• Guide the development, optimization, debugging, refactoring, and reuse of low-level code to improve security, performance, reliability, and maintainability, as well as the team in diagnosing complex product issues, developing durable corrective actions, and supporting security-critical components throughout their lifecycle
• Drive project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with partner teams across Windows, Azure, and the broader Microsoft security ecosystem
• Lead product development and scaling to customer and platform requirements, applying engineering best practices and maintaining accountability for quality, security, and performance
• Model, coach, and care for team members by defining clear outcomes, enabling success across organizational boundaries, and investing in the growth of engineers

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience
• 4+ years people management experience

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
