Job Description

The Position

Thermo Fisher Scientific is looking for a Manufacturing Software Engineer to develop software, automation, and digital solutions for the production of analytical instruments.

This is a hands-on engineering role at the intersection of software development and manufacturing. You’ll build Python-based tools, work with our Manufacturing Execution System (MES), automate data collection from instruments and production equipment, and turn manufacturing data into solutions that improve quality, reliability, and efficiency.

You’ll work closely with Operations Engineering, Manufacturing, R&D, Quality, and IT, giving you the opportunity to see your solutions move from an engineering idea into everyday production.

What Will You Do?

• Develop and maintain Python-based applications, tools, and automation for manufacturing and engineering.
• Develop and improve solutions within our Manufacturing Execution System (MES), including production workflows and system integrations.
• Build solutions for automated data collection from spectrometers, test equipment, and other manufacturing systems.
• Process and analyze manufacturing and instrument data to support troubleshooting, quality improvements, and process optimization.
• Integrate manufacturing applications with databases, servers, equipment, and communication interfaces.
• Identify manual or inefficient processes and turn them into automated and digital workflows.
• Troubleshoot software, data, communication, and integration issues affecting production.
• Develop software solutions supporting new product introduction (NPI), product transfers, engineering changes, and new manufacturing technologies.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, R&D, Quality, IT, and global teams.
• Maintain clear technical documentation and follow good practices for version control and software quality.

What Will You Bring?

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Good knowledge of Python and software development fundamentals.
• Understanding of databases, servers, networks, APIs, and system integration.
• Experience collecting, processing, analyzing, and visualizing technical data.
• Ability to work with data and communication interfaces from instruments, production equipment, or other technical systems.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills—you enjoy understanding how systems work and finding the root cause when they don't.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
• Good written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with MES or other manufacturing software systems.
• Experience with SQL, Git, APIs, or similar development technologies.
• Experience automating or digitalizing manufacturing or engineering processes.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, instrumentation, or industrial automation environment.
