Senior Manager, Software Development, Billing and Procurement Experience

Cloud cost management has traditionally required specialized FinOps practitioners to bridge the gap between engineering and finance teams. AI is changing that. Within AWS Billing, the Agent Services and Tools pillar is building agentic solutions that can advise, recommend, and take action on behalf of customers, making cloud financial management accessible to anyone regardless of technical depth. As a Senior Manager of Software Development, you will lead the teams delivering these products, including the AWS FinOps Agent, the billing and cost management extension for Amazon Q, the Billing and Cost Management Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, and the shared agent harness that powers AI services across AWS Billing. You will own the technical strategy, grow an organization of engineering managers, senior engineers, and applied scientists, and drive the transition from early adoption to production-grade agentic experiences that create measurable value for AWS customers.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and multi-year product roadmap for the Agent Services and Tools pillar, setting direction for the AWS FinOps Agent, the Amazon Q billing extension, the MCP Server, and the shared agent harness, evaluation framework, and skills platform used across AWS Billing.
- Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive organization of software development managers, senior engineers, and applied scientists organized into autonomous squads, building a bench of future leaders through coaching, development planning, and strategic project assignment.
- Drive system design for agentic architectures, including runtime orchestration, context management, autonomous action safety, and inference economics, partnering with applied scientists and principal engineers to navigate LLM constraints and tradeoffs.
- Establish customer feedback loops and operational metrics that connect product usage data, evaluation results, and cost signals to inform roadmap priorities and ensure the quality of AI-powered experiences at scale.
- Coordinate across AWS Billing and partner AWS teams to resolve cross-team dependencies, align shared goals, and deliver integrated agentic capabilities that reduce the complexity of cloud financial management for customers.

A day in the life
You start your morning reviewing agent evaluation dashboards and operational health for your production AI services, then join a squad demo where a small team walks through a proof of concept from the experimental labs group. After providing feedback on the approach and discussing how to move it toward production, you shift to a one-on-one with one of your SDMs to talk through their team's growth plans and an upcoming promotion case. In the afternoon, you lead a cross-team planning session with partner teams in AWS Billing to align on shared agentic platform capabilities, then wrap up by reviewing a narrative that frames the next quarter's investment priorities for your leadership.

About the team
The Agent Services and Tools pillar within AWS Billing owns the mandate for delivering agentic cloud financial management solutions to AWS customers. This is not an experimentation charter; the team ships production AI products and operates them at scale. We are organized into small, autonomous squads of engineers, applied scientists, and product managers designed to shorten decision cycles and move quickly. Our closest partners span other AWS Billing teams and cross-AWS service teams. We are looking for a leader who is excited to grow this organization and push the boundaries of what AI can do for cloud cost management.

Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years of engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
