Project Role Description : Responsible for developing and/or engineering the end-to-end features of a system, from user experience to backend code. Use development skills to deliver innovative solutions that help our clients improve the services they provide. Leverage new technologies that can be applied to solve challenging business problems with a cloud first and agile mindset.

Roles and Responsibilities
Development
(a) Implement backend and web-tier features in PHP 8.x in accordance with agreed technical designs and acceptance criteria.
(b) Build and consume RESTful APIs for OTT capabilities such as subscriber management, catalogue administration, metadata publishing, and back-office workflows.
(c) Develop within the established framework, Laravel or Symfony, and follow its conventions rather than working around them.
(d) Write typed, statically analysable PHP using declared types, strict types, constructor property promotion, enums, match expressions, and readonly properties where appropriate.
(e) Develop and maintain integrations with AWS managed services, including S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, and Secrets Manager, as part of feature delivery.
(f) Implement asynchronous and queued workloads correctly, including job design, idempotency, retry and failure handling, and dead-letter queue management.
(g) Produce unit and integration tests using PHPUnit or Pest to meet the agreed coverage threshold, and maintain static analysis using PHPStan or Psalm at the agreed level.
(h) Follow branching, code review, and CI/CD practices, and keep Composer dependencies and security audit findings up to date.

Java Microservices Integration
- Consume Java/Spring Boot microservice APIs from PHP application code, working to the published OpenAPI or gRPC contract.
- Build and maintain typed client layers and DTO mappings between PHP models and Java service payloads.
- Handle cross-runtime data correctness, including date and time representation, time zone handling, decimal and monetary precision, 64-bit integer handling, null and optional semantics, and enum and collection serialization.
- Implement authentication and token propagation across the PHP–Java boundary (OAuth2/JWT, service-to-service credentials, correlation ID forwarding).
- Read Java and Spring Boot source sufficiently to trace a contract, locate a controller or DTO, and confirm expected behaviour before raising a defect.
- Implement resilient integration behaviour — timeouts, bounded retries, graceful degradation when a downstream service is unavailable.

Application Support (L3)
- Triage and fix application defects raised by L1.5/L2 teams, incident analysis, or other production detection channels.
- Perform root cause analysis on assigned defects within the custom codebase escalate product-component defects to the product maintenance team with reproducible evidence.
- Isolate whether a cross-boundary defect originates in the PHP layer, the Java service, or the contract between them — and route it accordingly with evidence rather than by assumption.
- Investigate PHP-specific production issues — memory limits, execution timeouts, FPM worker saturation, OPcache staleness after deployment, N+1 query patterns.
- Support release note preparation, non-prod validation, and production deployment activities including rollback verification.
- Participate in on-call or shift-based support rotation as required by the engagement model.

Must-Have Skills
PHP
- Three to four years of hands-on backend development, including at least two years of production experience with PHP 7.4 or PHP 8.x.
- Modern PHP practices, including OOP, namespaces, interfaces and traits, dependency injection, type declarations, exception handling, Composer, PSR-4, and PSR-12 standards.
- Production experience with Laravel or Symfony, including routing, middleware, service containers, ORM using Eloquent or Doctrine, migrations, queues, and events.
- Testing with PHPUnit or Pest, including mocking of external dependencies.
- Working knowledge of static analysis (PHPStan or Psalm) and coding-standard tooling.
- Strong SQL and relational data skills — joins, indexing awareness, query performance, migration authoring.

AWS
- Working knowledge of at least four AWS services in a development capacity, typically S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, API Gateway, ECS, or Secrets Manager.
- Understanding of how the PHP application is deployed and served, such as nginx or Apache with PHP-FPM on EC2 or ECS, or serverless PHP, and the associated operational implications.

Java Integration
- Demonstrable experience integrating PHP applications with Java-based services in production, beyond merely calling a third-party public API.
- Ability to read Java and Spring Boot code, including project layouts, controllers, DTOs, and annotations, well enough to understand an API contract and debug integration issues.
- API contract fluency, including OpenAPI, Swagger, JSON Schema, HTTP semantics, status codes, error-payload handling, and versioning.
- Awareness of the common cross-language failure modes: timezone and date format mismatches, floating-point versus decimal handling, integer precision, inconsistent null representation.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Exposure to OTT, streaming, broadcast or digital media platforms.
- Familiarity with streaming concepts, including HLS and DASH manifests, DRM technologies such as Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay, CDN caching behaviour, SSAI, and entitlement models.
- Ability to write or modify Java/Spring Boot code, not only read it.
- gRPC and Protocol Buffers across PHP and Java.
- Message-based integration using Kafka with a schema registry, RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS, and cross-language payload compatibility.
- Redis and ElastiCache caching patterns, with exposure to NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, and OpenSearch.
- PHP performance work — Xdebug or Blackfire profiling, OPcache and preloading, FPM pool tuning.
- Infrastructure-as-code exposure using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation, along with Kubernetes and EKS basics.
- Observability tooling (Grafana, Elastic, Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry) and distributed tracing across polyglot services.
- Front-end familiarity (JavaScript/TypeScript, Vue or React, Blade or Twig templating) for back-office tooling.
- ITSM tooling exposure using ServiceNow or Jira Service Management, with awareness of incident, problem, and change processes.
