the TAs : GI, Vaccines Business Unit (VBU), Plasma-Derived Therapies (PDT) & Mature Products and Marketed Brands Development (MPMD)

Organization : R&D-Medical Data, Digital & Technology (RDM-DDT)

Role Purpose

The Director, Medical DDT Business Partner serves as the strategic interface between Global Medical Therapeutic Areas (GI, VBU, PDT, and MPMD) and the Medical DDT ecosystem leads.

The role is accountable for translating therapeutic area strategy into an integrated data, digital, technology, AI, and knowledge-management roadmap that accelerates evidence generation, insight generation, scientific engagement, and medical impact. The Director acts as a trusted advisor to TA leadership teams while ensuring that Medical DDT capabilities are applied in a manner that is scalable, reusable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise priorities. This includes representing TA demand within the Medical Nucleus DDT ecosystem and ensuring delivery of business outcomes through agile ways of working, ie cross-functional squads, product teams, and shared capabilities.

Business partnering is at the heart of your success. You will report to the Medical DDT head and work very closely with Medical DDT Ecosystems Head, other Global Medical functional teams (including Publications, Medical Strategy Teams), Global DD&T, R&D, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate TA strategy and objectives into impactful digital solutions. Your ability to act as a trusted advisor and build strong, collaborative relationships will be critical in driving both TA digital strategy and execution.

This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, operational excellence and innovation, as well as the leadership to guide global stakeholders on a shared journey toward digital transformation that addresses business needs and delivers sustainable impact. You will also champion Takeda's Director Leadership Behaviours, embodying agility, collaboration, and strategic decision-making in all aspects of this role

Role Description

The role functions as a senior strategic business partner to Therapeutic Area leadership and is responsible for:

  • Establishing and maintaining the DDT strategy and multi-year digital roadmap for the respective Therapeutic Areas.
  • Connecting TA priorities with Medical and Enterprise DDT capabilities, products, services, platforms, and delivery teams.
  • Identifying and guiding opportunities to leverage enterprise AI, advanced analytics, automation, knowledge management, scientific intelligence, and digital engagement capabilities to improve medical outcomes.
  • Driving alignment on DDT relevant topics between TA objectives and relevant enterprise DDT  Functions.
  • Acting as the voice of the Therapeutic Areas within the DDT ecosystem and the voice of DDT within the Therapeutic Areas.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Business Partnership

  • Serve as the primary DDT partner to GI, VBU, PDT and MPMD global medical leadership teams.
  • Translate TA strategies, priorities, and business challenges into actionable DDT demand and investment opportunities.
  • Influence TA strategy through identification of digital, data, AI, and knowledge-management opportunities.
  • Develop strategic roadmaps aligned with Medical and enterprise objectives.

2. Medical DDT Nucleus Ecosystem Leadership

  • Represent TA priorities within the Medical DDT Nucleus ecosystem.
  • Orchestrate delivery of TA DDT capabilities across multiple DDT squads, products, platforms, and capability teams.
  • Ensure capabilities are deployed consistently and reused across Therapeutic Areas whenever possible.
  • Drive TA -DDT portfolio prioritization and value realization discussions across stakeholders.

3. Digital and AI Transformation

  • Within the TA scope, works closely with the Medical DDT AI&Data Excellence head to Identify new and/or scale existing opportunities utilizing enterprise AI, analytics, automation, and digital engagement approaches.
  • Accelerate modernization of evidence generation, scientific exchange, medical insights, and HCP/KOL engagement.
  • Promote adoption of innovative digital solutions while ensuring compliance and responsible use of technology.
  • Champion continuous improvement and process simplification across TA workflows.
  • Enable data-driven decision making across assigned Therapeutic Areas.

5. Stakeholder and Change Leadership

  • Build trusted relationships with senior Medical leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Influence without direct authority across matrixed organizations.
  • Lead organizational change efforts associated with digital transformation programs.
  • Drive adoption, capability building, and stakeholder engagement across DDT initiatives.

6. Governance, Compliance and Value Realization

  • Ensure solutions meet regulatory, privacy, security, and quality requirements.
  • Establish outcome measures and KPIs for DDT investments within the given TAs.
  • Monitor realization of business value and continuous optimization opportunities.
  • Promote enterprise standards and sustainable operating models.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Digital Health, Data Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Medical Affairs and/or pharmaceutical R&D environments.
  • Deep understanding of data, analytics, digital technologies, AI, and evidence generation ecosystems.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presentation skills.
  • Proven track record in delivering innovative digital solutions while maintaining exceptional adherence to pharmaceutical industry standards (e.g., GxP, GCP, GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Expertise in Agile frameworks and related tools (SAFe certification or similar is a plus).
  • Experience managing external vendors/partners (including CROs) and global deployment across multiple regions.
  • Understanding of the medical affairs scope and responsibilities and the regulatory landscape relevant to medical affairs.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Digital Health, Data & Analytics, Technology, Product Management, Consulting, or related functions.
  • Significant experience leading complex digital transformation programs in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare organizations.
  • Experience partnering with senior business leaders and influencing organizational strategy.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional, matrixed teams without direct authority.
  • Experience implementing AI, analytics, data platforms, knowledge-management, or digital engagement capabilities.
  • Proven track record delivering measurable business outcomes through technology-enabled transformation.
  • Experience operating in global organizations and across multiple geographic regions.
  • Familiarity with governance, compliance, privacy, and regulated healthcare environments.
  • Advanced certifications in Agile, Six Sigma, or similar disciplines is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership in adopting emerging technologies including GenAI and LLM-based solutions in a Medical TA contexts.

Location & Travel:

  • Based in Boston, MA, USA. Some international travel may be required (<30%).

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$177,000.00 - $278,080.00
