Software Development Engineer II, Multi-Channel Sourcing

How vendors and warehouses join Amazon's fulfillment network matters: it shapes delivery speed, product selection, and the economics of every order. As a Software Development Engineer II on the Multi-Channel Sourcing (MCS) team within Amazon's Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) organization, you will build software at the top of the sourcing funnel. These systems directly impact customer delivery promises and vendor operations across 80,000+ vendors and 100,000+ warehouses in 16 marketplaces, generating ~7% of worldwide Amazon Gross Merchandise Sales (GMS) in 2025.

You will design and ship features that onboard vendors and their warehouses as live nodes in Amazon's fulfillment network and scale Direct Fulfillment into new marketplaces while improving the channel's economics. You will also build the sourcing cost models that determine the true cost of sourcing at the vendor, channel, and ASIN grain, informing sourcing decisions across the network. The team's long-term charter is still taking shape, so you can expect open architecture questions and the opportunity to provide input on where the team goes next.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy features that onboard vendors and warehouses as nodes in Amazon's fulfillment network with minimal friction.
- Build capabilities that scale Direct Fulfillment into new marketplaces and deliver profitability levers that improve the channel's economics.
- Develop the cost models that determine the true cost of sourcing from every vendor and feed Amazon's network-wide sourcing optimization.
- Develop and operate highly available, cloud-native distributed systems on AWS that connect vendor systems with Amazon's internal fulfillment services.
- Participate in code reviews, mentor fellow engineers, investigate operational issues to their root cause, and deliver permanent fixes that improve system reliability.

A day in the life
Most of your time is spent writing and reviewing code: building onboarding features, refining cost models, or improving system reliability. You collaborate with your team during design discussions and standups, and work with partner teams across the supply chain organization when your changes touch their systems. The rest of your time goes to operational support, documentation, and mentoring teammates on how your services are built and run.

The Multi-Channel Sourcing (MCS) organization within Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) builds a comprehensive, intelligent suite of systems that answer how Amazon sources its selection. By integrating vendor capabilities, operational constraints, and economic modeling, we match our products to the simplest possible supply chain at the lowest cost for both Amazon and vendors through mutually beneficial supply chain relationships. We exist to solve the fundamental challenge of sourcing optimization across Amazon's complex, multi-channel supply network while building long-term vendor relationships that drive sustained growth and innovation.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
