Full Stack Engineer 4 - Mainframe Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mainframe Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on supporting mixed batch and online mainframe infrastructure environments, maintaining high availability, and ensuring system resiliency. You will work across core mainframe technologies, performance monitoring, disaster recovery, data encryption, and file transfer protocols while supporting payment systems compliance and technical documentation.

What You’ll Do:

• Maintain and support a mixed batch and online mainframe infrastructure environment, ensuring high availability across Parallel Sysplex complexes.
• Utilize mainframe monitoring suites (such as Omegamon) to track system performance and health.
• Support disaster recovery technologies, including GDPS, to maintain system resiliency.
• Implement and manage mainframe encryption technologies and solutions for data both at rest and in flight.
• Manage file transfer protocols including SFTP, FTPS, and NDM (Connect Direct).
• Develop comprehensive documentation for system designs, processes, and configurations.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards to maintain the integrity and security of payment systems.
• Collaborate in an Agile project environment using Jira.

Basic Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• At least 4 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
• At least 3 years of experience with Sysplex complexes
• At least 3 years of experience with COBOL, CICS, VSAM, JCL, DB2, or Mainframe RESTful API technologies
• At least 3 years of experience with mainframe tools and utilities (IBM File Manager, IBM Z Workload Scheduler, batch schedulers, IBM Batch Utilities, ISPF, or TSO menu functions)

Preferred Qualifications: 

• 10+ years of experience supporting a mixed batch and online mainframe infrastructure environment
• 5+ years of experience with highly available Sysplex complexes
• 5+ years of experience with mainframe monitoring suites, such as Omegamon
• 5+ years of experience with COBOL, CICS, VSAM, JCL, DB2, or Mainframe RESTful API technologies
• 3+ years of experience with Mainframe Disaster Recovery technology, such as GDPS
• 3+ years of experience with mainframe encryption technologies for data at rest or data in flight
• 3+ years of experience with file transfer protocols, such as SFTP, FTPS, and NDM (Connect Direct)
• 3+ years of experience with source code and version control packages, such as Endevor or ChangeMan
• 3+ years of experience developing comprehensive technical documentation for designs, processes, and system configurations
• 3+ years of experience with payment systems compliance, industry regulations, and payment security standards
• 3+ years of experience working in an Agile environment using Jira and team collaboration software such as Confluence
• 2+ years of experience with Database Administrator tasks in DB2
• 2+ years of experience with x509 certificate management on z/OS
• 2+ years of experience with payment gateways and credit card processing systems
• 2+ years of experience with Python on z/OS
• Experience participating in mainframe modernization journeys
• Experience mentoring junior team members or technical staff

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
