Summary:
As a member of our Global Database Services team, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of enterprise database platforms.
You will help ensure the availability, security, scalability, and performance of mission-critical database environments supporting business and logistics operations worldwide.
This role combines hands-on database administration with strategic engineering initiatives, including platform modernization, cloud adoption, automation, database standardization, and the continuous evolution of our Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform.
As the database subject matter expert within the team, you will partner with application teams, infrastructure teams, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and
scalable database services while driving operational excellence and innovation.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Database Architecture and Engineering
Design, implement, and maintain enterprise database environments in accordance with
business requirements and enterprise standards.
Develop database architectures that support high availability, scalability, performance,
and security requirements.
Partner with software vendors, solution architects, and internal stakeholders to define and
implement standardized database solutions.
Contribute to strategic initiatives including platform modernization, cloud transformation,
and database standardization projects.
Database Administration and Operations
Administer and support enterprise databases across development, test, and production
environments.
Ensure the stability, availability, performance, and continuous improvement of the
enterprise database landscape.
Monitor database health and proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to minimize operational
risks.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation after completing onboarding and knowledge transfer
activities.
Performance Optimization and Capacity Planning
Monitor, analyze, and optimize database performance and resource utilization.
Perform capacity planning to support business growth and increasing transaction volumes.
Identify and resolve database and application performance bottlenecks.
Develop and implement performance tuning strategies to improve efficiency and
scalability.
High Availability, Backup, and Disaster Recovery
Design, implement, and maintain high-availability solutions utilizing appropriate replication
and standby database technologies.
Develop and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Conduct backup validation and recovery testing to ensure business continuity
requirements are met.
Support disaster recovery planning and execution activities.
Security and Compliance
Implement and maintain database security standards, controls, and best practices.
Manage user access, authentication, authorization, and auditing requirements.
Ensure compliance with corporate security policies and regulatory requirements.
Identify security risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
Automation and Continuous Improvement
Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and service
quality.
Develop and maintain automation solutions using scripting languages and configuration
management tools.
Automate routine database administration and operational processes.
Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the organization's Database-as-a-Service
(DBaaS) platform.
Consulting and Technical Leadership
Provide technical guidance to development teams on database architecture, design,
performance, and best practices.
Advise project teams and business stakeholders on database-related solutions and
infrastructure requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and digital
transformation programs.
Serve as the primary database expert within the organization.
Documentation, Standards, and Knowledge Sharing
Develop and maintain operational procedures, technical documentation, standards, and
service descriptions.
Collaborate with enterprise architects to define and improve database governance and
operational standards.
Promote knowledge sharing and mentor team members on database technologies and best
practices.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.

Professional & Technical Skills:
Professional Experience
Several years of hands-on experience administering databases in enterprise environments.
Proven experience in database design, implementation, administration, and performance
optimization.
Experience supporting business-critical applications and highly available database
platforms.
Experience working in global and cross-functional organizations.

Monitor the health, availability, and performance of database environments using GOP
monitoring tools.
Proactively identify alerts, anomalies, and performance degradation and take corrective
actions.
Work with centralized monitoring platforms (e.g., infrastructure and database monitoring
dashboards) to ensure end-to-end visibility of database services.
Analyze monitoring events and correlate system metrics to detect root causes of incidents
early.
Ensure proper configuration and maintenance of alerting thresholds, notifications, and
escalation paths.
Manage and process incidents, service requests, and problems using enterprise IT service
management (ITSM) tools.
Create, update, and resolve tickets in accordance with defined service level agreements
(SLAs) and operational procedures.
Perform initial triage, classification, and prioritization of database-related tickets.
Collaborate with support teams, application owners, and infrastructure teams to ensure
timely resolution of incidents.
Document resolutions, known errors, and workarounds in the ticketing system to improve
knowledge sharing and operational efficiency.
Contribute to continuous improvement of incident management and problem management
processes.
