Microsoft Advertising is looking for a Senior Social Media Manager to shape how our brand shows up and stands out across social platforms. You’ll turn business priorities, audience insights, and marketing campaigns into organic and paid social programs that earn attention, deepen engagement, and strengthen brand preference.
As the social media subject matter expert, you’ll work across the marketing organization to build channel strategies, content plans, and campaign activations that advance Microsoft Advertising’s business goals. You’ll combine strategic thinking, hands-on content development, performance analysis, and operational rigor to make social media a high-impact, measurable marketing channel.
This role is ideal for a marketer who understands how brands earn attention on social, moves comfortably between strategy and execution, and enjoys turning complex ideas into clear, compelling stories for distinct audiences. Responsibilities
Strategy & Business Planning
- Develop and execute social media strategies aligned to Microsoft Advertising brand, audience, and campaign priorities.
- Translate business, marketing, product, and brand objectives into audience-led social strategies, channel plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Use audience insights, social listening, performance data, and industry trends to identify opportunities and optimize channel and content strategies.
- Build reporting frameworks that connect content and channel performance to audience behavior, campaign objectives, and future investment decisions.
Content & Audience Engagement
- Manage organic and paid social media programs, including editorial planning, content activation, publishing, community engagement, audience targeting, and performance optimization.
- Create platform-native content and social experiences that increase audience engagement, reach, and advocacy.
- Develop social copy, creative briefs, content recommendations, and multimedia assets that align with audience needs and brand objectives.
- Independently create and/or support short-form video and multimedia content production when appropriate.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Partner with product marketing, communications, events, executive communications, and campaign teams to transform strategic initiatives into impactful social content and experiences.
- Lead and coordinate complex, cross-functional marketing initiatives across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Build trusted relationships and effectively communicate recommendations, insights, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders at multiple levels.
Insights, Measurement & Optimization
- Establish metrics, reporting frameworks, and performance reviews to measure business impact and marketing effectiveness.
- Analyze audience, channel, campaign, and content performance data to drive actionable recommendations and continuous improvement.
- Leverage social listening, analytics, publishing, campaign management, and marketing automation tools to inform decisions and improve outcomes.
- Apply testing, experimentation, optimization, and performance measurement practices to improve channel effectiveness and audience engagement.
Operational Excellence & Program Management
- Drive operational excellence through planning, governance, workflow management, process improvement, and execution discipline.
- Manage competing priorities, dependencies, and risks while delivering complex initiatives to successful completion.
- Bring clarity to ambiguity by making thoughtful trade-offs and driving decisions that achieve business objectives.
- Utilize AI-enabled marketing workflows, automation, and responsible AI practices to improve efficiency, insight generation, personalization, and content quality.
Brand Stewardship, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all social media activities align with Microsoft brand standards, accessibility requirements, privacy considerations, legal review processes, and platform best practices.
- Maintain governance frameworks for global corporate social channels and marketing programs.
- Apply editorial judgment and content review standards to protect brand reputation and ensure high-quality audience experiences.

Required:
- 6+ years work experience at a branding agency or with product marketing, brand building, and/or strategy development OR equivalent experience.
Preferred:
- Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional marketing initiatives in fast-paced environments, with demonstrated success managing stakeholders, competing priorities, and organizational ambiguity.
- Experience developing audience-led social media strategies for global B2B, advertising, media, or technology brands, translating business objectives into content, channel, editorial, and engagement plans that drive measurable outcomes.
- Deep expertise in LinkedIn and strong knowledge of social media platforms, including organic and paid social, community engagement, audience targeting, experimentation, optimization, and emerging channel capabilities.
- Strong analytical capabilities, with experience leveraging audience insights, social listening, channel performance data, analytics, and marketing technology tools to inform strategy and deliver actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication, editorial, and content development skills, including copywriting, creative briefing, content strategy, and multimedia content creation, with the ability to build trusted cross-functional relationships.
- Knowledge of brand governance, accessibility, privacy, legal review processes, and responsible AI-enabled marketing practices, including the use of automation and AI to improve content quality, personalization, insights, and operational efficiency.
Candidates hired in New York will be required to be in office 4 days per week.

Brand IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
