Software Development Engineer II, Amazon Leo

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

SpaceSDK is a framework for generating, building, and running software applications for satellite components. SpaceSDK is used by applications across Amazon Leo systems to to manage concurrency, inter process communication and to provide common functionality.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded software in Rust, C++, or other modern languages.
- Write system applications for the various satellite systems and device interfaces like CAN etc.
- Scale up SpaceSDK to support an increasing number of Satellite components.
- Develop monitoring and telemetry for Satellite components.
- Develop security features for satellite systems.
- Collaborate with other software and hardware teams
- Troubleshoot and solve critical issues on satellites orbiting in space
- Be a champion for the quality, reliability and security of critical code.

A day in the life
We are a fast paced team working on developing and maintaining a critical software framework used by key components on a satellite. We like to solve challenging software engineering problems, as well as root cause failures on in-orbit satellites and help mission control recover satellites.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
