Do you want to build the next generation of financial systems that power Amazon's global business? AWS Finance Technology (AWS FinTech) is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to help design and deliver distributed, scalable services that process financial transactions worth billions of dollars annually. In this role, you will work with big data in complex business contexts, building systems that must be reliable around the clock and flexible enough to support Amazon's continued growth. You will collaborate with talented engineers to solve hard technical problems, ship high-quality code, and directly improve how Amazon manages its finances worldwide.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and build distributed, scalable financial services that handle high-volume global transactions, owning features end-to-end from requirements through deployment and operations.
- Write clean, maintainable code and actively participate in code reviews, coaching teammates on quality standards and helping raise the technical bar across the team.
- Identify root causes of operational issues and implement permanent fixes, continuously improving the reliability and performance of AWS FinTech's systems.
- Collaborate with finance stakeholders, product teams, and peer engineering groups to translate complex business requirements into well-scoped technical designs.
- Evaluate new tools, frameworks, and approaches — including generative artificial intelligence — to improve team productivity and the overall developer experience.

A day in the life
You will start your day reviewing operational metrics for your financial services, triaging any issues that surfaced overnight. From there, you might write code for a new transaction-processing feature, work through a design problem with a teammate, or review pull requests. You will regularly sync with finance and product partners to clarify requirements, mentor newer engineers on your team's systems, and contribute to planning sessions that shape what AWS FinTech builds next.

About the team
AWS Finance Technology builds high-performance financial systems that support Amazon's current operations and future growth. Our services process billions of dollars in transactions annually, and we are investing in new capabilities to keep pace with Amazon's expanding business. We value technical rigor, collaborative problem-solving, and an inclusive environment where every engineer's perspective shapes our direction. If you are excited about working on globally scaled financial infrastructure alongside top engineering talent, this is the team for you.
