As a Senior Associate in Capital One’s ESRO, you will apply your risk management skills to the company’s Technology organization. You will partner across Enterprise Services, Divisional CIO, and Information Security teams to develop and support best-in-class industry risk solutions in a manner that supports innovation and protects our customers, shareholders and associates. As a member of the 1st line controls testing team, you will collaborate with other 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line teams to monitor and test processes and control environments, report results, and evaluate compliance with cybersecurity requirements and regulations for the Technology organization. Your contributions will drive insight into risk and control performance, and organizational change through risk identification, measurement, analysis and reporting to enable better management of technology risks in an open and collaborative environment.
The Technology Controls Testing Team, within ESRO’s Controls Governance and Testing (CGT) team, is seeking an experienced Technology Controls Testing specialist, with strong interest in process maturity, cybersecurity, identity and access management (IAM), and cloud technologies. A clear understanding of requirements, controls, and testing methodologies is necessary for this role. The ideal candidate will be able to design/execute test plans, identify process and control gaps, and compose clear and concise findings to document shortcomings. In addition, the ability to clearly communicate results is imperative in this role. This will be an exciting role in a dynamic environment requiring the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments appropriately. In this role, the associate will have the opportunity to learn new technologies, develop relationships with partners across technology divisions, and materially contribute to process enhancements to reduce risk.
In this role, you will:
Apply expertise on cyber best practices to assess current state, identify gaps, and assess cyber risk, threats, and business impact
Define mitigation strategies, prioritizes and escalates recommendations
Perform independent control testing activities and document results
Communicate findings to stakeholders
Project manage assigned engagements to meet defined timelines
Establish and maintain relationships during testing engagements
Execute tasks assigned by manager to deliver on team objectives
Collaborate with team members when necessary
Possesses an understanding of technology systems at an aggregate level, including networks, applications, cloud computing, and data
Demonstrates a broad understanding of major categories of cyber threats, how those threats can occur in our environment, and the measures required to safeguard the enterprise
Understands associated reporting metrics and is able to inform on cyber risk
Leverages tools [e.g. Excel/Google Sheets] to analyze data and create charts to support cyber risk management efforts
Makes recommendations regarding changes to policies, procedures, and control programs to mitigate evolving risks
Effectively self-challenges cyber control programs as part of first-line duties and escalates risks where appropriate
Demonstrates sound lifecycle program management to include documenting and communicating action plans, impediments and risks, and stakeholder engagement
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or military experience
At least 2 years of experience in technology (software delivery, distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, infrastructure as code), cybersecurity (identity and access management, application security, cloud security, data protection), technology auditing, systems risk management, technology risk assessments, resilience engineering (operational resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, high availability), chaos engineering (fault injection, blast radius mitigation, automated security validation), site reliability engineering (SLAs/SLOs, observability, incident response), or a combination.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or equivalent
2+ years of Risk Management experience in Cyber or Information Security practice
2+ years of experience in cloud computing (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
2+ years of experience in second-line or oversight role at financial institution or regulatory agency
2+ years of experience testing Technology controls
Professional Security Certification or Professional Risk Management Certification
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $101,100 - $115,400 for Sr. Associate, Tech Risk & Analysis
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
