Job title: Head Rare XLSD Marketing

  • Location: Cambridge, MA

About the Job

The Head, Rare/xLSD Marketing is the senior marketing leader for Sanofi's Rare Disease franchise, accountable for portfolio-level brand strategy, commercial execution, and cross-functional leadership across a complex rare disease portfolio — including Fabry (Fabrazyme), Gaucher (Cerezyme, Cerdelga, Venglustat), Pompe (Nexviazyme, Lumizyme), Acid Sphingomyelinase Deficiency or ASMD (Xenpozyme), and Mucopolysaccharidosis Type I or MPS-I (Aldurazyme). The business contributes 2.2B in revenue. This role leads a multi-disciplinary marketing team and serves as the primary U.S. strategic partner to Disease General Managers, Global brand teams, and cross-functional U.S. leadership, with a strategic ambition to transition the franchise to a digital- and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled marketing model.

The Head of US Marketing owns brand strategy, positioning, disease-state education, and omnichannel engagement for the rare disease franchise. In rare disease the role is unusually strategic and unusually scientific: with tiny audiences and intense scrutiny, marketing is less about mass promotion and more about precise disease education, KOL and advocacy engagement, patient-finding programmes, and equipping a small field team — all delivered through an AI-augmented content engine.

Join the team transforming care for people with immune challenges, rare diseases, cancers, and neurological conditions. In Specialty Care, you’ll help deliver breakthrough treatments that bring hope to patients with some of the highest unmet needs.

About Sanofi

We're an R&D-driven, AI-powered biopharma company committed to improving people's lives and delivering compelling growth. Our deep understanding of the immune system — and innovative pipeline — enables us to invent medicines and vaccines that treat and protect millions of people around the world. Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve people's lives.

Main Responsibilities

Marketing & Portfolio Brand Leadership

  • Own portfolio vision, strategy, forecasting, and supply planning across the full Rare/xLSD franchise

  • Build and scale AI and large language model (LLM) marketing capabilities across the portfolio

  • Lead, develop, and manage the xLSD marketing team across portfolio strategy, account marketing, patient experience, digital innovation, congress and key opinion leader (KOL) engagement, speaker bureau, and marketing operations

  • Drive brand planning, campaign and messaging strategy, and key performance indicator (KPI) development and tracking across account and patient workstreams for each brand

  • Serve as the senior U.S. commercial voice for the xLSD portfolio, ensuring brand strategies are grounded in market insights, patient journey understanding, and competitive dynamics

  • Oversee development and execution of awareness month programming, community engagement activities (including Rare Ambassadors and awareness days), and congress strategy across the portfolio

Digital Transformation Leadership

  • Champion and drive the strategic ambition to transition the xLSD franchise to a fully digital marketing model within two years

  • Partner with the Director of Account & Patient Digital Innovation to lead AI-enabled patient identification and brand conversion initiatives — including 1Rare.Ai, IQVIA, and Turing — across the portfolio

  • Oversee digital strategy development including account and patient websites, paid and organic media, search engine optimization (SEO) and geo-targeting, customer relationship management (CRM), social media execution (Meta, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube), and representative-triggered email programs

  • Ensure digital innovation capabilities are leveraged as shared services across the xLSD portfolio for maximum efficiency and impact

Cross-Functional & Global Partnership

  • Serve as the primary U.S. strategic partner to Divisional General Managers and cross-functional U.S. leadership across the portfolio

  • Act as the key U.S.-to-Global commercial partner, ensuring alignment between U.S. execution and global brand strategy across Fabry, Gaucher, Pompe, ASMD, and MPS-I

  • Lead core team governance, forecasting, and KPI development in partnership with Finance, Market Access, and Medical Affairs

  • Partner with Patient Advocacy and Programs leadership on patient community engagement strategy and compliant patient engagement program execution

  • Collaborating with Commercial Operations on budget management, Veeva and iCare operations, and marketing infrastructure

Team & People Leadership

  • Manage and develop a multi-disciplinary team of marketing professionals spanning portfolio strategy, account marketing, patient experience, digital innovation, speaker bureau, congress and KOL engagement, and marketing operations

  • Build organizational capability, talent pipeline, and a high-performance culture across the xLSD marketing organization

  • Manage the xLSD marketing budget, resourcing, and operational excellence — including Veeva Events support, iCare events operations, and internal catalogue management

  • Drive a shared services model across the xLSD portfolio to enable flexibility and efficiency as the franchise evolves

About You

  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.

  • Extensive pharmaceutical or biotech marketing experience, with meaningful rare disease, specialty, or orphan drug marketing experience strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated success leading or contributing to the digital transformation of commercial models in specialty or rare disease; strong track record of people leadership and cross-functional influence at senior levels, including partnership with Global brand teams; experience with patient advocacy engagement, patient community programming, and KOL relationship management

  • Familiarity with digital and AI-enabled marketing tools and platforms — including Veeva, CRM systems, 1Rare.Ai, IQVIA, and social media platforms — strongly preferred; experience managing complex budgets and marketing operations across a multi-brand portfolio

  • Experience managing a portfolio of brands simultaneously, ideally across multiple disease areas or indications preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale AI and digital marketing capabilities in a rare disease or specialty pharmaceutical environment preferred.
