We're looking for a Director, HR Consulting - Engineering & Gaming to join the Leadership Team during a significant period of transformation and growth.
In this role, you'll partner across Engineering and Gaming to help create people experiences that enable individuals, teams, and organizations to do their best work. You'll collaborate closely with business leaders, HR Business Partners, Centers of Excellence, CELA, and global stakeholders to address complex people challenges, strengthen manager capability, and support an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute and grow.
As part of the People Consulting & Engagement organization, you'll have a unique opportunity to influence people strategy across businesses, geographies, and global priorities. This role brings together people leadership, strategic consulting, employee relations expertise, and program leadership to help simplify experiences, support organizational change, and deliver meaningful impact across Microsoft.
You'll lead a team of HR consultants while helping shape how we leverage insights, data, and AI-enabled solutions to improve the manager and employee experience. Whether guiding leaders through change, partnering on organizational health, or helping evolve our consulting practices, you'll play an important role in creating a more connected, consistent, and human-centered workplace.

Responsibilities
People Leadership & Talent Stewardship
- Leads and develops an HR Consulting team through significant transformation, ensuring the organization is equipped to address complex and business-critical people matters.
- Establishes clear priorities and expectations for consulting quality, decision-making, and outcomes while providing guidance and support across the team’s work.
- Coaches and enables the team to deliver effective, insight-driven consulting to business leaders, including advisory support, organizational health assessments, and capability-building conversations.
- Guides the team in identifying trends and insights across cases and engagements, translating them into clear narratives and recommendations that support business and HR decision-making.
- Supports the team’s partnerships with HR Business Partners and Centers of Excellence to implement and scale enterprise HR programs, processes, and initiatives.
- Ensures alignment to global priorities while enabling flexibility to meet regional and business-specific needs.
- Provides input on the identification, design, and implementation of HR projects and programs, including consideration of change impact, timing, and feasibility.
- Supports talent and capability growth across the HR Consulting organization by identifying development opportunities, enabling learning experiences, and fostering continuous learning.
- Models Microsoft’s culture and leadership principles through integrity, inclusion, accountability, and care, while supporting employee growth, development, aspirations, and career progression.
Employee Relations & Workplace Integrity
- Provides leadership and oversight for complex, business-critical employee relations matters across Engineering and Gaming.
- Establishes effective escalation and partnership approaches, ensuring issues are addressed consistently, thoughtfully, and within agreed timelines.
- Partners with Workplace Investigations, Global Employee Relations, Legal (CELA), Security, and Communications on sensitive matters, including leading investigations where appropriate.
- Designs and champions solutions that foster an open, inclusive, and values-based workplace while balancing immediate needs with longer-term organizational considerations.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders on workforce trends, external labor environments, and evolving employee expectations, helping inform policy and practice.
HR Programs, Projects & Operating Model Excellence
- Leads HRC’s partnership with HRBP and COEs to implement and continuously improve enterprise HR programs and cycles (e.g., Rhythm of Business, performance and development, manager excellence communities).
- Promotes strong process stewardship, clear ownership, and effective execution while identifying insights and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Contributes to the design and implementation of global and regional HR initiatives by providing input on timing, feasibility, risks, and change impact.
- Advances simplification, consistency, and effectiveness across HR Consulting ways of working.
HR Solutions Consulting & Insights
- Sets the consulting strategy, aligning HRC services to business priorities and anticipating future needs driven by market, regulatory, and organizational changes.
- Supports the team in delivering high-quality consulting to business leaders on HR programs, processes, and organizational health.
- Synthesizes trends and insights across the region to inform organizational design, HR strategy, and prioritization.
- Partners with regional HR leadership to provide a comprehensive view of organizational health, opportunities, and considerations that support informed decision-making.
AI, Digitalization & Continuous Improvement
- Drives adoption of AI-enabled, digital, and automated HR consulting solutions to improve scale, consistency, and impact across the organization.
- Promotes continuous improvement by simplifying processes, reducing operational friction, and supporting data-informed decision-making across HR consulting, employee relations, and manager support.
- Partners with HR COEs, Product, Digital HR, and Analytics teams to leverage listening systems, insights, and automation to anticipate needs, identify trends, and shape proactive interventions.
- Builds team capability and confidence in the responsible use of AI and digital tools to enhance coaching, consulting quality, and organizational effectiveness.
- Ensures AI and digital innovation remain human-centered, ethical, and compliant while strengthening the employee and manager experience.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree AND 9+ years experience with human resources or business programs/processes OR Master's Degree AND 6+ years experience with human resources or business programs/processes OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years people management or equivalent experience
- 15+ years HR consulting/HRBP/People Consulting experience
- 3+ years leading people managers or consulting teams
- 5+ years employee relations experience in complex, multi‑country environments
- Experience advising senior business leaders and partnering across HR COEs, HRBPs, CELA, and Employee Relations functions.
HR Consulting M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
