Overview

The Creation + Expression Lab within Design + Research, Windows + Devices, is seeking a Creative Editor and multidisciplinary content creator to join our team in Redmond, Washington.

This Product Designer II role will help bring future products, experiences, and ideas to life through editing, cinematography, photography, motion design, sound, and visual storytelling. Editing and storytelling sit at the center of the role, with opportunities to contribute across the full production process—from early creative development and shooting through post-production and final delivery.

We’re looking for a versatile maker with compelling visual and storytelling instincts who is highly proactive, self-sufficient, and comfortable operating in ambiguity. This person should be able to assess what a project needs, solve creative and production challenges independently, and move from an early idea toward a finished piece without relying on highly prescriptive direction.

The ideal candidate can move comfortably between disciplines, take ownership of projects when needed, and collaborate effectively with teams across design, research, engineering, product development, and other creative disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Edit and craft compelling product films, sizzles, prototypes, narratives, presentations, and other visual content from concept through final delivery.
  • Capture video and photography of products, people, prototypes, environments, and experiences using professional production tools and techniques.
  • Develop motion graphics, compositing, titles, transitions, and visual treatments that strengthen the story and communicate ideas effectively.
  • Translate scripts, storyboards, creative direction, and early concepts into polished visual narratives with thoughtful pacing, sound, and visual craft.
  • Support or independently lead productions across planning, shooting, lighting, audio, editing, color, sound, and delivery as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, product teams, and creative partners while adapting quickly as product and creative direction evolve.
  • Proactively identify creative and production needs, independently solve problems, create structure when the path is unclear, and drive projects forward without waiting for detailed direction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design.
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Media Production, Design, Photography, or a related field.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in video editing, filmmaking, content production, motion design, or a related creative discipline.
  • Experience using professional editing and post-production tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or comparable software.
  • Portfolio or reel demonstrating capabilities in editing, visual storytelling, cinematography, motion design, or production.
Experience working across multiple areas of production, including editing, cinematography, photography, lighting, audio, motion graphics, and post-production.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and self-sufficiently, identify creative and production needs, and drive projects forward without highly prescriptive direction.
  • Experience independently taking projects from early concept or raw footage through polished final delivery.
  • Experience with CG animation, 3D workflows, rendering, compositing, or related visualization tools is a plus.
